In MY Restaurant…
Do you ever have those “if I ever own my own restaurant I am SO going to do this!” thoughts?
I do. All the time in fact. They are some of my best thoughts if I do say so myself
Take last Saturday for example.
After spending a mortgage payment on flowers for our garden, Jeff and I decided to dine at the local Montanas restaurant. I ordered the veggie burger with a side salad…You may remember the burger but if you don’t here’s what it looked like(sans broccoli and grapes of course!):
The veggie burger, half of which was enjoyed at dinner and the other half enjoyed for lunch the next day(as seen above!), was absolutely spectacular. So spectacular in fact that one would not have any idea that they weren’t eating meat. Smothered with apple butter BBQ sauce and topped with sauteed peppers, mushrooms, onions and feta cheese, this burger was everything I love about burgers. You know what I mean don’t you? You take a bite and toppings fall everywhere, bbq sauce that squirts in a projectile fashion nearly blinds the person sitting across from you, etc. There’s nothing better.
I digress.
I had a strong hunch that this particular veggie burger wasn’t made “in house” and as such my curiosity got the best of me and I had to ask our server.
My hunch was correct. The burger was from a box.
And so, one of those “if I ever own my own restaurant I am SO going to do this!” thoughts was entertained.
At the restaurant in which I own(in my fantasy world of course!), I will master the perfect veggie burger and make it fresh to order, every time.
Further to that, when ordering this perfectly homemade veggie burger, your options for side dishes may include kale chips, homemade maple baked beans, fresh cut sweet potato fries, corn on the cob or grilled seasonal vegetables! The options are endless! AND to wash it down, how about an ice cold kombucha? AND for dessert, how about a deliciously fresh bowl of fruit salad or a freshly made fruit crisp topped with homemade vanilla bean ice cream made with natural, unrefined sweetener?
…I told you those are my best thoughts
As you well know, I am of the opinion that pretty much anything a restaurant can do, we all can do better and though Montana’s veggie burger is spectacular, the fact that it comes from a box and is likely filled with all kinds of fake fillers, well, that is less than spectacular.
That’s not to say I won’t ever eat that veggie burger again, because I likely will.
I’m just saying, in my fantasy restaurant, my veggie burger will be better, in all the right ways

In MY restaurant, I will have french fries on the menu, but they will actually be real potato wedges baked … in olive oil. Do you think anyone will complain?
I love it! No one would complain at all! All you’d have to say on the menu is “NOT DEEP FRIED” and they’d be one of the most popular items I think!
