A High Society of Blue Valentines

Posted by Katie on Feb 26 2012 at 12:43 am

I am truly blessed to be able to say that I happen to be good friends with the most thoughtful and inspirational women I may ever meet in my life.

This most thoughtful and inspiration woman invited me into her home tonight for an evening of appetizers and movies.

The spread was rich and really too much…But enjoyed immensely nonetheless!

I bought brown rice sushi filled with cucumber, red pepper and avocado…

And Asian Lettuce Wraps! Recipe to come!

Miss Janet prepared a whole grain flatbread topped with red onion, dilly cream cheese and smoked salmon:

And buffalo chicken blue cheese dip:

Bits and bites of everything!

And seconds!

Chased down by my very favourite special occasion beverage…Rock Creek Dry Apple Cider!  Janet was so thoughtful and picked some up for us to enjoy!

Foamage…

It went down a little too smoothly if you ask me ;)

Then came time for dessert…

I brought Chocolate Banana Cake Brownies (made with Kamut flour!) and Vegan 5 ingredient Date Squares willed so by Angela

And Miss Janet made a beautiful and delicious rhubarb & berry crisp!

It was perfectly crisp and deliciously (and naturally I might add) sweet!

Bits and bites of everything (again!)

We’ve been talking about watching Blue Valentine since it came out ages ago so we started with that movie.  It was very well done…But a tad raw/dark for me.  That being said, both Janet and I share a special fondness for Mr. Ryan Gosling and as such, we were OK with this

Then came time to be serenaded by Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra and Louis Armstrong in High Society.

What a man:

Being serenaded by the fire…

I may or may not have imagined myself as Grace Kelly HERE:

…and here!

Ah Franky.  How I love thee…(unlike my crazy mother!)

Then came time for some Banana Dolce David’s Tea…MEG I thought about you when drinking this tea!  One day you and I will shop at David’s Tea together.  I look forward to it!

Janet also sent me home with a little care package…

She had seen the Broadway Musical Mary Poppins in New York years ago and she kept the show bill and book…She knew I’d love to steal a glance or two at it!  She also sent me home with a few Whole Living magazines and a Body & Soul magazine AND The Help novel.  I look forward to reading all of them!

I will take great care of them and have them back to you soon my dear friend!

Well now it’s 12:37 am and I am watching Disney’s Sleeping Beauty.

…I think it’s just about time for me to get my Sleeping Beauty on too…

Goodnight.

Thank you for a beautiful night, Katie! I enjoyed sweet dreams of Bing and Frank. We MUST do it again soon. Your Asian lettuce wraps, sushi rolls and decadent desserts were out of this world! I can’t wait to hear the reviews from your readers when they (we!) get the recipes and savour for themselves. Thanks for spoiling me – you too are a good, good friend. And thanks to Jefferson for the workout gifts.
